open top of toilet ?

how do i open the top of the toilet its one with the push down button not a handle ... need to get it open because its flushing all the time

twist the flush button anti-clockwise and remove lid then adjust ballvalve(filling valve) to lower the the amount of water entering your system, it's overflowing through the internal part of the syphon. this must be a close-coupled suite(tank on pan) this will sort it out

If it is a dual flush one, there will be one large button and one small one you remove it by pushing and holding down the large button whilst wiggling the smaller one. The smaller one will then pull out with your fingers then remove the bigger one.

There will then be a screw that needs removing before you can remove the outer ring or cistern lid.

Once you have done it you will find it much easier the next time.

If the toilet lid doesn't want to lift, its probably held down with the flush button itself. The button can be unscrewed by turning it with your finger tips - if it hasn't been fixed too tight!
