the shower was running at a normal temperature when the water started to lose temperature and now is only producing a cold flow. there is plenty of hot water and the hot water inlet pipe is warm

I took the cartridge apart thinking the filters were inside.Bad mistake,they don't have any.Anyway after some time I got it back together and it all works ok.They say you cant do this but you can (excel model 'b')Your problem will almost definately be the model with the filters which are just bits of mesh you can clean with a toothbrush.Go to a mira spare parts site and it will give an exploded view.It's really easy.

the mira excel has a replaceable valve cartridge which is available on ebay, from mira or from most reputable plumbers merchants. Although it does cost about £100.00
If you are fairly competent and follow the instructions supplied with the valve you should be able to dom this job your self
