my Ferroli optimax boiler is not working and is showing code noCn?

my boiler is twelve months old. Ferroli Optimax HE31
I have no heat or hot water. Where it would normally show the clock it is showing noCN. I have set the reset button but nothing happens.

Took advice thump suggestion wife wouldn't let me thump it so she tried on third or fourth thump hey presto it came back to life six year old max

Thank you. This happened on my eight-year-old Ferroli boiler for the first time. Tried google after drawing a blank on the instruction manual. This site was my fourth look, and I was encouraged to see a well-endorsed remedy (ie thump in the indicated spot).

This worked for me after the third thump - what the internet is for!

I was just about to look at replacing my 5 year old Ferroli, after annual problems with the diverter valve and now the 'no CN' Thanks to this post and a slap in the bottom left corner the boiler is fine. THANKS!!

Brilliant. Heating engineer and I "googled" this and succeeded in getting boiler going. Has anyone been in touch with Ferroli! Why do they have an unpublished fault code? (Nocn). The reason maybe that it will initiate a "recall/change" on the PCB. A sticky contact can be caused by introduced moisture though , maybe positioning in kitchens above microwaves/kettles etc will be the consumers issue at the end of it all . thanks for the resolving answer though , pure genius and experienced problem solving

Hit it on the bottom left of the front panel just below the control panel. It makes a longer knocking sound and kicks into action. Hahahah! Brilliant. Who needs ten years of experience when all human knowledge is on the internet. Wonderful.

So glad I foun d this site!
No cn appeared in the display panel but its not listed in the manual faults page! How stupid.
Took this advice and all is well, I wouldnt have had a clue otherwise.
I must say the boiler has been nothing but trouble since being fitted 4years ago. We have had 2new pcbs already. True to say I wouldnt touch another with a barge pole. Even the plumber has stopped fitting them. That tells you something!

I had this issue. A sharp bang with the heel of my hand in the lower front left hand corner of the boiler and all was well. I've since called in the professionals and they say the issue is with the timer clock, which they have placed. I will just have to wait and see if the fault has cleared.

Just wanted to say thank you for the advice on this board. Had this problem with my boiler this morning and had four very cold children!
Followed the advice of the sharp tap to the bottom left of the panel and it worked a treat. Should keep us going until the landlord gets round to sending someone out, hopefully.

I came home this evening and found the noCn code on my Ferroli HE 31C. When I couldn't find it listed as a fault in the manual I started surfing the net and really pleased I found this site. I could hear the noise described so tried banging on the casing bottom and side left. I now have a working boiler and can follow up by contacting someone in the morning for a replacement PCB. Thanks to everyone who has left advice and comments.

We are just having the same sort of issue with our HE31 boiler. The engineer on the phone suggested that I try tapping (with a reasonable amount of force) in the bottom left corner of the display area surround. To my surprise it worked and the boiler sparked into life once again. Apparently there is a relay that can stick which then isolates the whole board and stops it working. He said that it could possibly keep it working for another 5-6 weeks, long enough for it to be replaced.

hi

normally this is a simple problem either a stuck relay or condensation from the flu has dripped onto the fuse on the pcb and blown it.

if it sounds like the pump is trying to start then makes a noise resembling a woodpecker its the relay just give the boiler a thump at the top left hand side of the thermostat

if its the fuse turn of the supply and replace it either way id still contact ferroli for a new updated pcb

Same here, boilier didn't work when fitted, had noCn error, low heat output and hot water was cutting out too. Ferroli engineer changed pcb yesterday, it's ok now.
