Why has Dyson DC04 lost suction and cleaning brushes stopped rotating?

After I removed shoe laces from the main nozzle that had got accidentally sucked in and wrapped round the cleaning brushes, I noticed that the vacuum has lost most suction from that main nozzle and the cleaning brushes no longer rotate. There is no loss of suction from the attachment nozzle and there is no change in sound from the motor. Can anybody help please?

If you have a DC24 like mine and you find the brush has stopped rotating because it got clogged [symptoms are that it doesn't vacuum the floor properly, even though the suction works on the attachment], try taking off the brush roll holder and cleaning it. See: youtube.com/watch?v=ghvP8X0TMMs

That's what I did and it worked fine. No spares to buy, nothing broken.

If it is a DC04 with brush control, the most probable cause is that the brush drive belt or the clutch guide wheel it runs on has been damaged by running the motor while the brush bar was jammed. If this is the case, it will require that the clutch assembly with the belts needs replacing.

On the right side of the Vacuum on the beater brush cover you will see a small button and beside that you should see a tinny hole. This hole is a reset button, take a small pin and insert it into the hole. Does your brush turn now?

Turn the hoover over and take the part off around the brushes and check to see if the rubber band has either come away or broken. If not check the pipes not clogged with hair and dust at the side.

Not an expert, but sounds like a belt has broke that drives the roller the brushs are on. Must be a cover to come off to see. Good luck!
