My Henry just stopped working in the middle of hoovering

Hill, June 2021
I was just using my Henry HRV200-11 switch off to open the door. The led light is on and no life when I switch the green switch on. So it’s some simple if the led light is still on.

Good advise.

Look at the flex as it enters the fully enclosed plug, if you can see any coloured wires, they may have disconnected from their internal connections. You should not be seeing wires, only covered flex. If you can then all the pull on the plug is being taken up by the internal screwed connectors.

I followed the above ladies advice and cut off the plug, its not reusable, and attached a new one, ensuring the flex cover was well tight to the plug - my Henry roared back to life.

Many thanks to the original lady who suggested this remedy.

I have the red hoover, and my motor stopped working earlier this year; i put the vacuum aside until i could get a good look at it, today was that day!
I checked continuity of all wiring and found it all to be fine, i removed the connections from the motor from the switch and it was fine too.
I then looked at the motor. It spins freely enough but my tester said it was an open circuit; thats where the trouble was. I undid the screw for the motor brushes and removed the brushes one at a time, putting each back on when i'd finished.

To get the brushes out, you have to undo the screw on the plastic brush holder, it holds it tight to the body of the motor, undo it, put it somewhere safe and to remove the brush body, you need to look first under it to see the electrical connection tab; this tab must relocate in the contact on the body when you put the brush and brush holder back onto the motor body.
To remove the brush holder you have to sit the motor so that the brush holders are uppermost, and once unscrewed, you pull the plastic part UP and back, this releases the connector tab from the body of the motor.
When you put the brushes back onto the motor you need to take care to make sure the tab connector is correctly in the plastic receiver on the motor body; push the motor in and down. Make sure the screw can line up and put it in.

Why am i talking about motor brushes? BECAUSE thats where the trouble lay! My brushes had some crud on them that had stuck to the side of the brush channel and this stopped the brush from being able to keep contact with the motor; simply, it was jammed. Once i'd freed it i carefully wire brushed the crud material away (use a small wire brush not a dirty big thing).
Once i could see the brushes were able to travel back and forth in the channels i put them back on the motor.
I could have added a very small amount of copper grease to the brush sides but in time this will dry and form a crust like the one i had just removed. Just make sure that the brushes can slide in and out in the channel freely.

I set up all the contacts and plugged the hoover into the mains and it works perfectly! Bob's yer Teapot!

light is still on help.

Jan 2014! 2-3 year old Henry just stopped working completely after husband used it once, turned it off, then tried to turn it on again and nothing! There was no power at all and no smell of burning was detected. I couldn't believe such a strong determined chap (the vacuum that is - although hubby's not bad either!) would just give up so read up online. After whittling down the problem to 2 or 3 possible causes, before investigating further I first checked the fuse which was fine and second changed the sealed plug. Hey presto Henry is back to full working order :)

henry hoover not working red light on help

lee, April 2013
my Henry has stopped working. It is just over a year old. I have checked the plug fuse, which is ok, and the power is getting to the switches because the red light is lit on the hi switch. I have checked the brushes, which appear to be ok, with no chips out of them. I cleaned carbon of the armature. No smell of burning from the motor. Contacts in the reel housing are OK. What would be wrong

How to actually change the amp in the plug?

There is no way of getting in the plug itself

Liam Naulls, January 2010
Try the cable rewind contacts as they brake off and arc/burn .you can get a rewind contact kit £8.99 from sparesaver.com.I just took the top of my HVR200 as it kept stopping /cutting out when the cable pulls the winder around .I found the 2 copper contacts on the small inner ring had broken off .looks easy to repair

Yes...exactly the same problem with mine! I have had my Henry for 15 years and have grown very attached to it. Never ever gave me any problems before it died! Tried fuse checked all cables and switches ...could be brushes on the motor but still making contact so hard to tell how worn they are? The running tone dropped before it went kaput so maybe a tell tale sign of whats wrong?

naughty nick, June 2009
Oh by the way,I replaced fuse first and it didnt work still,so then replaced the whole plug.

coolzing, May 2009
Hi,
I had exactly the same problem.there were no burning smells coming from it so nothing seemd obvious.I then took it apart and checked that all wires were connected, which they were. Then decided to check the plug. After replacing the fuse I chopped the cable of (as it is a seald plug) and connected up a new one.Hey Presto,Henry was alive again.Hope this helps.
