How can I fix the CD-ROM in my HP Compaq?

The CD-ROM reads CDs fine, but when I want to burn a CD, it doesn't recognize the CD when I insert it. It keeps asking me to "Insert a Disk". What is going on and how can I fix it.

Try a different brand of disk. Also avoid 'cheapies'.
