my digi thompson digibox dti6300?

my digi box constantly flashes orange even after being swithed off and unplugged has any one had this problem and do they know how to fix it

If you look on the TopUPTV website there are lots of cures for these boxes, I have been buying them up cheap to resell and have only had to open the box to replace a capacitor in a duff power unit on one unit so far all the rest can be fixed without going in the box. The usb on the front is used to programe the software and do updates.

If you can manage to get through to TUTV, tell them that you have bought another pvr. I have done this & today (wed 06 may) i recieved a call back, from a manager telling that the problem was down to a "virus" being downloaded to all set top boxes, rendering them useless. When i told them i had bought a new pvr, the manager offered me an upgrade of a 250gig Thomson unit. It gets delivered on fri, FREE!!!!

I've already replied against another question covering this ('Why won't my Thomson freeview turn on') & it appears a fatal software corruption is the culprit. Elsewhere this is being cited as a software download precipitated error & since TUTV recently updated these boxes in April and maybe last Sunday too, then they could well have fatally killed off the boxes. If that is so, irrespective of whether they are out of warranty, they should replace them.

I have also contacted Watchdog to try & lend weight to it being taken up.

There is a stock fault in the power supply section. satcure.co.uk does a repair kit (RELKIT 33m). It's cheap enough to try if you're handy with a soldering iron, but I can't guarantee it to work in your particular situation. The casing is tricky to get into, but fairly straightforward once you've gained access.

Do a search for "thomson 6300 flashing fault" and you'll find plenty of people with the same problem and I'm sorry to say that it's fatal. Mine was the same.

I was in a big ASDA this morning (21st April 09) and they had a very big pile of 6300-16 (160gig) recorders at £50, including 6 months of Setanta and 1 month of TUTV. On closer inspection each box had a sticker on the side saying it was "reconditioned as new" with a 6-month guarantee. There were at least 20 on display in this one store alone, so I think it's safe to say that a LOT of 6300's have been sent back to the manufacturer.

Thomson must know there's a problem. Whether they'll admit it or not is another story.

Mine is heading for the bin and I'm going to spend a little more on something more reliable.
