I have fitted an internal aerial that you stick to the inside of the windscreen to my Ford Mondeo, FM reception is good but AM is very poor. I have checked all connections, still the same, it only improves when I hold the aerial with my bare hand. What does this mean, and what can I do to improve the situation?

This means that you are actually becoming the aerial yourself....hardly an ideal situation, and the reason why its best to reinstall the external aerial.
