HOW TO ADJUST HANDBRAKE CABLE SPRINTER VAN?

THERES TO MUCH TRAVEL IN THE HAND BARKE SO ITS FAILED THE MOT
JAMIE, April 2009
Sprinter 313 2011 (2006-2015?)
•Adjustment should be done on flat land, place bricks in front and behind the wheels to stop the van from rolling.
•Take off the handbrake.
•Under the van there is a handbrake unit where the 3 cables join together, 1 form the front (hand brake), 2 from the rear wheels).
You'll see two 13mm nuts on the unit (adjustment nut and back locking nut),
• undo 13mm back locking nut then turn the adjustment nut clockwise (tighten handbrake) or anticlockwise (loosen handbrake) to adjust the handbrake.
• once the hand brake is fully engaged with 5-6 clicks, tighten the back locking nut while holding the adjustment nut with a spanner (to stop it from moving).
• put the hand brake on remove the bricks and your done.

I can confirm that the same information is true for the Volkswagen LT32 / LT35 vans. Which have the same chassis as the Sprinter. I used the williamsdiesels answer, but the answer from Steve also looks as though it may work.

Please ignore last post as I made a mistake on the model numbers.

I can confirm that the same information is true for the Volkswagen LT34 / LT45 vans. Which have the same chassis as the Sprinter. I used tip number 1, but tip number 2 also looks as though it may work too.

to correctly adjust the h/brake, loosen off the 13.. bolt, pull down the h/brake cable, this totally loosens off the arm in the shoes, then remove a wheel stud, on the n/s turn the hole to 9 0 clock, look in with a light and ther is a spur adjuster, small screwdriver turn the spur wheel until your wheel locks up, then back off so it turns freely wit a small amount of resistance, repeat o/s except hole at 3pm. Then at the 13mm use a 8mm alan key and tight the horseshoe towards the o/s until the cable is not tight but taught. lock 13mm then check you have 2-3 clicks on h/brake. Instant pass...
