Thomson DTR crash?

It seems all Thomson DTR's have had the same problem. On Sunday they all had flashing standby light and froze.
Has anyone any solution to fixing the problem? Its down to an upgrade which has effected all the boxes, so i've been told.

Sinced December 2009, our box has played up. Apart from freezing and all the other problems, (we don't use Top Up TV), we have survived on a staple diet of JUST BBC1!!! It doesn't recognise anything else. I hope Watchdog do take this up - our box is just over 2 years old! We're buying a cheap one today and will look inside the old box as I've heard that the capacitors can overheat and can't give enough power to boot it up

Has someone got the tel no for Thomson helpline?

jane, May 2009
unplug the box for 20sec. press and hold standby button on the box while plugging it back in. As soon as the amber light flashes let go and press up,down, left and right arrow keys in sequence 3 times. The amber light will stay on and the green light will start flashing. In approx 60 sec the box will turn on by itself.
Its important you press them in sequence 3 times!! Good luck!!

I've done the reboot sequence about 8 times and the light still won't go red any suggestions??

Cheers Jim! The power off up down left right thing worked. Not happy about losing all my programs on the hard drive. TUTV should give everyone a couple of free months subscription as compensation!

Keith, May 2009
mines outside its warrentee & because its a continuous red light flashing, apparently the information has become corrupt & the box is no longer any use...she said that THEY did not download any info onto my box (as I am not with Top up TV) therefore I have to get another box...guess what it wont be a Thomson!!!!!

maria, May 2009
managed to re boot it all working well turned it off for 10 mins when came back on said hard disk failure nothing saved woudnt tune programmes in!! biggest waste of time and money ever ,, TOPUPTV NEED TO BE BROUGHT TO BOOK !! AM PURSUING THIS

DEK, May 2009
i DONT WANT TO LOSE RECORDED PROGRAMMES, NEED TO REBOOT DTR BUT NOT AT EXPENSE OF PROGRAMMES... TOPUP SHOULD SORT THIS OR COMPENSATE ALL WHO HAVE BEEN F....D AROUND BY THEIR FAULTS ALL SHOULD CONTACT WATCHDOG OR SIMILAR THIS IS A FARCE!!!!!!!

JIM, May 2009
The decoding that mike suggested above got mine working again - but have lost entire library - my kids are not impressed! but many thanks for the useful advice at least we can watch telly again.

Jim,
Absoutly correct fix. De-power unit re-power with on/off button pressed in. Once you see one of the lights flash inside release on/off button and then immediatly press up arrow, down arrow, left arrow, right arrow, in that sequence only, await 60/80 seconds and the amber light will revert to red ligh and you can re-start the box as normal. You may have to do this several times as I did to get it to accept. You may also need to do a re-scan for all of your channels. My box is now back up and working fine. Thanks again Jim.

all should contact watchdog

Same problem. Top Up tv techie told me switch of box for ten secs press and hold the standby/on switch turn box on wait till amber light comes on then press sequence up key down key left key right key. (can be done from remote)wait 90 secs and box should work as normal. Took five/six attempts but box unfroze and was able to use it as normal.

Mine has also crashed and I got no where when I talked to Top Up TV. I have emailed Watchdog, but no reply. I have now bought a Humax, it's great and it works!!!

Stuart, April 2009
Ours crashed-April 2009 red light flashing!

Kevin, April 2009
Does anyone have any official word from Thompson that an upgrade was rolled out? I think if one person contacts Watchdog then we all should... the more complaints they get, the more likely they are to investigate.

LB79, April 2009
mine too crashed, just left with flashing red light, please send any repair ideas

steve wymer, April 2009
I am going to contact BBC Watchdog... For a company to crash its own set-top boxes is ridiculous - and we should get a replacement regardless of the age of the box...

Am fuming !

Laurence, April 2009
my Thomson DTR is the same has anyone any idea who we can complain to. Mine is well out of warrenty bought 2007.
