Windows can't check for updates?

Hi. I have been getting a message for the last few weeks that Windows cannot check for any updates and therefore cannot install updates on my computer. Also, when I want to look for album information in WMP using Metaservices it can't connect to the internet, although my internet explorer is working. I have NOD antivirus and I do not know how to check what programs the firewall is blocking.

Also, this problem started after I installed an Intel ProSet Wireless program on my laptop, this might just be a coinsidence though. I have uninstalled the program but the problem persists. I use a wireless broadband connection

A whole lot of people are having exactly the same problem. I have taken my computer in to have it checked. Nothing wrong with the computer. No malware, nothing.

When you have this many people with the same exact problem, then the problem is with Windows, not with this many computers. As long as everything else works, I understand from my IT professional that Vista does not have any critical updates until later this month.
