i just bought this desktop computer at a yard sale a few weeks ago, and the computer had many problems with it, and now i dont know what to do about it. it won't update, it won't put a newer windows update on it, it won't play any of my games, and i can't get it to do anything. so my question is what do i do about this problem, and how can i fix it?

As you don't say anything about what the the computer is it's difficult to even guess what your problems may be.

If I was you I'd put it in a yard sale.
