What is causing my Volvo XC-90 CD player to display "deck error"?

What is causing my VolvoXC-90 CD player to display a "deck error" message? It does not play any of the CD's in the machine currently and makes a noise like it is trying to eject or change CDs. Any thoughts on what I can do?
