Panasonic PV-D4734S displaying only "DVD-Video" splash screen?

In both VCR and DVD modes, the display to the TV is only the blue DVD-Video splash screen -- as though a DVD is not loaded. I can hear the audio fine, and the video part worked until now (9 whole months). Panasonic phone "support" said take it to repair shop; but I pay labor since it's more than 90 days old.

Even if you can't help me, beware. My unit is untouched since install in a no-kids household. It just broke out of the blue.

Further investigation reveals that the problem is in transmitting with S-video. I switched to the Yellow, Red, White cables and that works fine.

I've not tested with another DVD player to isolate whether problem is DVD, cable, or TV.

If you are in the UK our legislation is such that you will not have to pay to get it fixed. (Various Sale of Goods Acts)If you are elsewhere then I can't help.
