Can not connect to the internet using wireless network interface?

My son has a Advent 7087 laptop and he can connect to the internet using an ethernet cable, but when he tries using the wireless network interface he gets the following message:
NO WIRELESS NETWORKS WERE FOUND IN RANGE.
MAKE SURE WIRELESS SWITCH ON YOUR COMPUTER IS ON.
WIRELESS NETWORK INTERFACE DISABLED
Could you please tell me how to enable the network and where it is found in windows.

P.s. if your on xp it's already on in windows -
it's not a software fault.

find the button/switch and use it!

Read your Laptop manual - there is a switch on your laptop which enables the wireless network hardware.

I'm positive this is the answer I've just worked it out n my daughters new advent laptop, and I had exactly the same notifications as you.

On hers it's a small button next to the power switch...

Thank you for your advice but I have tried that, but without the Ethernet cable connected it shows no networks available.
