Which way is best?

Want to get outdoor wall plastered but the capping is flush with the wall. Have been told that the plaster will stick out about half an inch from wall when finished and will not look right. The capping was done with brick to match the house, so removing them will be costly. Is there any kind of dash that could be used that does not stick out as much as plaster.

Of course not.
Dashing is applied over a scratch coat of sand & cement anyway, so it has to be thicker.
