We thought our box was dead so took it back to Argos and they gave us the instructions as detailed by others in this "blog". And it worked, it reformats the disk so you lose your recordings but at least it fixes the problem.

I had the same problem Thomson died over night, amber/orange light was permantly on and could not get the box to switch on, thought it was because of the digital switchover in the Exeter Devon area which is due any day! However I followed "Gary's" steps to fix it, and it worked on the 3rd attempt! Thanks Gary, I wonder how long it will last!!! Digital due to swich tomorrow 6th May, whether this will cause futher problems!!!!!! I hope Not!

I tried the instructions on the TUTV website for 2 days, it didn't work for me. Rang them and went through to cacellations. Told them why I was cancelling. Very helpful chap talked me through it. Unplug from wall, wait 10 seconds and plug back in then press and release the standby button on the box before any lights come on. When light blips once, quickly press up-down-left-right. Next, on your remote control, press the DTR button followed by the standby button. It worked on the 2nd attempt. Also got one month free subscription for my trouble!

mine has gone down overnight and low and behold the technical support line rings and puts you through different "push this number for BLAH BLAH BLAh" before finally disconnecting you.... 08444159159.......

My box also died overnight. Have been switching on and off all day - no joy. Have just tried "quick fix" above but it didn't work for me.

This seems a common thing, we lost our tonight and did the power disconnect followed by
Hold st by/on button in until light flashes
Then quickly pressed menu and ok
Took three attemps but is now OK
computers eh?

have tried the fix still no joy, did you have the ariel scart lead etc still plugged in the back when you got it to work?

Hi, have just tried Nick's fix, the link below and low and behold we are back in business. What a find.

yes, i think it seems to have happened to everyone over night. We dont use top up tv anymore we just use the box, didnt know if that is why all fixes aren't working for me?

sarah, May 2009
Hi mine has gone the same way overnight, found the problem on the morning of the 4th. Is this a similar date to everyone else?

CP, May 2009
mmm Seems to be a common report mine failed overnight on 3rd May 2009, has it been updated by the wizards, and took all our machines out????

Alf, May 2009
Mine has done the same have tried all the suggested fixes on this site, but still cant get it working, still stuck on red, have you had any luck since posting your question, im getting really angry now, have emailed watch dog

I have the same problem, ok last night but now wont to turn on, any ideas besides the sledgehammer? it looks as if the software down load was bad, I wonder how many more have been screwed up.

nick, May 2009
I wonder if the fact that this has happened to me right now is a co-incidence. Maybe it was a bad automatic firmware download from the geniuses who make the device?

I've never liked this device, it is poorly designed, poorly implemented, and an embarrassment to Thomson. My plan is to use a sledgehammer.
