my hotpoint wm79 is not washing properly?

it's making a noise like there is sand or gravel in the drum!! Someone suggested new brushes? The machine is about 7 years old, should I just get a new one?

id be suprised if it was the brushes, id go more with either the drum bearing or there might be something in the drum housing
