Replace the pads on a flute?

The pads on my flute are not sealing properly. Can I replace the pads myself?
Nick Steel, May 2009
You can replace the pads yourself. You'll need a fine screwdriver, the pads, small pieces of paper, and a book called "The Complete Guide to the Flute and Piccolo" by Phelan. And a lot of patience and time. If you need the instrument for band, and can't have it in pieces for a week or two, get another one before you begin.

It's really not recommended to try this repair yourself. A qualified professional should always replace pads.
