Only way - buy a new one. The problem is the tiny, badly designed plastic contact pin in the base. It is far too small and thin to do the job repeatedly. I've had my kettle just 13 months with only me in the house to use it, and have exactly the same problem. The pin is loose and moves to the side when the kettle is placed on the stand so the contact cannot be made with the base: hence no electric connection. They used to refer to it as 'Built-In Obsolescence' back in the 50's/60's and now it simply means 'made in China - no spares available' I am stupidly(?) tempted to buy another one... the design just 'looks' so good. Ah well.....

It is probably the outer contact in the base, the design is hopeless as it bends down each time you put the kettle on its stand. Where to get just a new base, that's the question?
