Thanks to this site we were able to do a home repair , it was the capacitor. Thanks agan :)

Another grateful vote for the domed capacitors. Machine dead, blue standbye LED on solid, one capacitor slightly domed, replaced both, now working fine. Thanks

Took top off could see straight away 2200uf 16V capacitor had popped(dome shaped) on power board. Im no expert but bought replacement for a pound and soldered new one on now everything is working fine.

The problem is the 2200uf 16V caps on the Power supply board also replace the 470uf's as well cost is only a few quid - ensure they are 105degC caps NOT 85deg C. The tops 'bow upwards' on the capacitors and cause the failure. Done mine = everything works

Mine is doing the same. Can't turn the machine on. Had this recorder for about 18 months, would dearly like to take the recordings off the hard drive but don't know how. Very disappointed.

I have exactly the same issue. Thre doesn't seem to be a solution and it's just over a year old. Really poor instructions and interface, difficult to use. Guess it's only fit for the bin then.

Same here. Happened once after 3 months and player was replaced by E-buyer. Now same thing happened after 7 months. I agree we should get together and complain to manufacturer. I think they are made in China - does anyone have manufacturer address? I have bought a different DVD but would keep this as a spare if could get it to work.
Does anyone know how to get stuff off hard drive?
Mad Madge, December 2009
And exactly the same here too. Been searching for a solution but nothing so far. Now giving up and buying a replacement from Toshiba.
It would be useful to get the recorded stuff off the hard drive before it goes in the bin, but I haven't found out if that's possible either yet. Info is very hard to come by on this dreadful machine.

Mine is doing exactly the same. Blue light stays on but can't switch on. Maybe we should try to contact the manufacturer as it appears to be a very common fault. I had a similar fault with another brand of Hard Disk Recorder and found a simple way of fixing the problem by reformatting the hard drive on a technical help website.

does any body know how to get the standby blue light off and the machine to work again

Can't help Trish - mine is exactly the same. Tried everything, now going to throw it in the trash and never touch wharfedale again. If you google around you will find many MANY people with the same problem. Suspect the machine is cheap and nasty!!

Exactly the same thing happened to mine today. Checking through my saved programmes on my hard disk and the player froze. Had to turn it off and now I just have the blue standby light on and nothing else works.
Anyone have any clues to what's happening?
Dave, May 2009
Mine is doing exactly the same this week. Screen went green whilst scrolling through the hard disk menu & totally froze. Turned off then back on and now blue standby light is on, no clock and no buttons will work at all.
Help!
