hi pat,
well what a load of rubbish u have been told, 1st lets get some facts correct, corgi has been replaced by gas safe reg since 1st april 2009 so thats who i'll ref to, u only need to be gas safe reg if u are dealing with gas or any gas part ie flue, gas valve etc etc any one can take a rad off & re-fit it, it doesn't matter if u took a rad off or not, a modern boiler has a number of safety features built in, if the pressure gauge on the front of the boiler drops (this is the pressure within your heating system & the boiler) then the boiler will not work different boilers are set at different pressures although most are 1/2 bar or below, so even if u had a leak or took a rad off & blead the rad without topping up the heating pressure (this is normally a metal hose with a valve on one end or both ends) it wouldn't harm the boiler.
a leaking automatic air vent would cause water to be inside the boiler & the pressure to drop, however if u have a leaking heat exchanger this is a different matter, this is normally caused (though not always) in a boiler of this age by the fact that the boiler was fitted onto a dirty system (black sludge & water when u bleed the rads) when the boiler was fitted the system should have been flushed & an inhibitor put in to prevent sludge, if it wasn't then the boiler manifacturer can back out of any repairs (even if the boiler is only a couple of weeks old) as it is in there instructions that this must be done, if this is the case as the boiler is some 2 years old the orginal installer or warmfront could say that the system was flushed but u had taken rads off & drained the system & inhibitor was not put back in when u re-filled it, i know this is prob not the case but u would have to prove it (not very easy), i'm not sure what the life span of a ideal boiler is but i can tell u they are at the cheaper end of the market which is why warmfront uses them, at the end of the day u normally get what u pay for.
I would suggest that u get back onto warmfront & tell them that even if the boiler was empty (due to leaking air vent) it shouldn't have worked so there was obviousely something wrong with the boiler (if the boiler was empty & was firing then this could have damaged the heat exchanger.
I wish u the best of luck i have left my e-mail & would love to hear how u get on.
regards.
