How can i fix my boiler, Potterton Puma 80 - 80e?

The pliot light is on and stays on, but when i put the central heating switch on, it lights up as normal. after 2 minutes the gas goes out along with the pilot light.
I relight the pilot light and the same thing happens again
Incidently when i run the hot water everything appears to work normally.
It has been making some parculiar noises recently...Could this be the end result? What is the best course of action?
Thank you

Instead of taking fool hardy advise, call the experts on 08706 096096 and your parayers will be answered, and aswell as having it repaired by the manufauture you will be covered for 12 months theron, for less than a plumber, who could possibly be guessing at your expense. Now which makes the most sense ?

i have the excac t same problem and i think i agree with bob roberts first answer.. the pump seems to be labouring and making alot of noise. plumber will be called later. :(

sorry to dash all your theories on draft accross the pilot but the boiler is room sealed and shouldnt have any drafts the problem with the boiler is the divertor valve easily replaced by a competant engineer average cost 180 pounds

pump

hi Anthony, i think i have got the answer [the pump]. the pump moves the water round the system at a set temp, when you switch the boiler on to heating, the pump starts up moving the water across the heat exchanger and into the heating system, if the pump is faulty the water still gets hot but will not circulate in the system so the water around the boiler gets very hot and the boiler trip out on over temp, this is a tipical pump failure fault, the hot water then moves into thesystem by graverty replaced by cold water you then re light the boiler and it all starts over again, keep doing this and the whole system would get hot useing the old graverty method ie when they did not fit over temp stats to the sytems.that where the funny noise is coming from [the pump]. now lets look at the hot water sytem, When you turn on the tap to give you hot water, the cold water cominig in keeps the boiler cooler by disipating the heat into the cold water to create your domestic hot water supply so the over temp stat will not sense high temp thus the boiler runs ok on hot water but goes out on heating, you could say that the high temp stat is the problem of which it is ,but its the pump fault that is making the high temp stat do its job.sorry i got it wrong last time i should do more thinking about the sytems, please let me know how you get on with it if you need help fitting one or any more [? ]get in touch.bob. p. s. all things can be solved given the time.

Dear Bob
Thank You for your reply
If their is a draft blowing across the pilot light to put it out, then why does it not happen when the hot water tap is turned on and the gas lights up with the boiler working.

Anthony, January 2006
it sounds like the burner is pulling a draft across the pilot light and blowing it out, cure! START UP THE BOILER AS NORMAL SWITCH TO HEATING AND WATCH THE PILOT LIGHT VERY CAREFULLY TO SEE THE EFFECT OF THE DRAFT, I think you will see the pilot light blow away from the thermo couple thus tripping out the main gas valve supply, hope you find this correct,if this is the case then re adjust the angle of the pilot flame to compensate the draft, why! should this happen? if you have changed any draft effect ,ie, moved a door or fitted vents or opened windows altered the flue in any way or fitted a cat flap near the boiler.all the best bob.
