How to fix a fridge?

A friend gave me a fridge she no longer needed,it worked when she gave it but when I switched it on nothing happens. I have checked fuse etc, left it off for days and tried again but still no joy. Can anyone help? Make unknown the label has gone.

Hello,

Does the light come on in the fridge? Is the compresser running at all? If no compresser at all and the light works in the fridge, I would suspect the cold control (thermostat) first.
