How do I take a Turntable off?

I have a 64 Penncrest record player and I want to take off the turntable. I need to replace the female jack for a speaker and it is under this turntable. Can't get to it from underneath. Is there a way to pull if off? Pls help - I'm trying to fix this as a funky gift for my son.

Thanks Peccavi
your photo looks to modern from how mine looks. Mine looks very solid and I can't see how I could even pry it up. I was hoping the rod that holds the record would screw off or something, but having no luck. I know it must be easy, but nothings working.

There may be a circlip - like the one in this picture...

You may have to take the rubber mat off to get to it.

Good luck...
