EC car manufacturers may have had to cough up the service fault codes as
part of the legislation to enable independent garages to service
vehicles without invalidating the initial guarantee/warranty.
Although it may be that these have been released in response to the
harmonisation of vehicle service electronics post-2001.
Or they may have been disclosed by subversive (ex-)employees (surely
not?).
Anyway, they are out there; and I just wondered if you had heard of any
similar legislation/drafts/proposals for other products? To take a
random example: AEG washing machines?
Of course, if you know what 'C4' on the display of an 'AEG oko-lavamat
88730 update' means, I would be even more than eternally grateful, if
that's possible...

My Lavamat 72630 stop mid programe. The repair man was able to run a system check and identified a faulty pump motor. If I had the information about the correct sequence of button to press and the error codes I could have repair this fault myself

Add me to the list too. I have an error code F9 and if as I understand is is likely to be the motor I am likely to end up replacing rather than fixing.
But more than that, we have consistenly found the staff who answer the service requests rude.
I hate giving business to companies with staff with attitude problems.

After 'phoning around - found a friendly repairman who told me that a Cd error code means 'poor or no water pressure/supply'.

I checked through the connections and found what appears to be a small ball of solder stuck in the cold supply pipe! Problem fixed.

I too would be very keen to find out what the various error codes mean - we have a Lavamat 72620 which refuses to budge and displays Cd as an error code. If I could at least find out what the code means I'd be able to decide on whether to have a go at fixing it myself or becoming resigned to calling out their indifferent repair service at £96+VAT plus parts.
