Panasonic MC-E8023 vacuum cleaner - keeps stalling?

Hi

We have a Panasonic canister vacuum, about 2yrs old. Works fine and has good suction, so long as I clean the filters every once in a while.

Trouble is that the power keeps cutting out. I presume the motor's overheating, since it will suddenly burst into life again after a few minutes if the switch isn't pushed to turn it off.

Anyone got any ideas what's wrong/how to fix it? Does it need a new motor? Is that worth doing, if that's the case?

Any advice appreciated.

Not so much an answer - Another question!: Our MC-E8023 suddenly but quietly died yesterday.
Post mortem checks showed filters clean and no blockages; continuity checked ok from wallplug to On/Off switch/PCB. PCB/motor interconnections ok. Motor appeared in good order (turned freely, commutator clean/cleaned, plenty of brush length left, etc.). PCB v/dirty but cleaned and fuse checked ok. Put back together again and machine worked brilliantly - for about 5 mins then died again exactly as before. Q1: Anybody got any suggestions? Q2: Is there a thermal switch in the motor? If yes -Is it the sleeved 'thing' connected between adjacent connector blades at the Blue wire connection point on the motor? What is their usual failure mode? Are they prone to operating too early and not re-setting when they become elderly?
Any contributions gratefully accepted
M/Thanks!

Hi! I have MC-E 8021 and have the same problem. I have it since 2005. I do clean the filters after every usage. Has been serviced once and still quickly overheating and without power.... That may be a problem of these models... I am thinking of buying a new one, but not Panasonic

I suspect that it's not an overheat problem but that the power cord has been gently tugged and tugged again during general use and a conductor is partially severed either inside the cable or at one end of it - when it next stops leave the machine alone and wobble the cable about - that should tell you.

You seem to be careful about cleaning the filters and that leads me to believe that the motor isn't overheating - unless the hose is blocked that is - no suction = no cooling air. I doubt very much that it needs a new motor.

Good luck...
