Maximum gas flame too big on Whirlpool hob?

I have a Whirlpool AKT933NB gas hob connected to a 9kg LPG cylinder and when the gas flame is on maximum it is very long and yellow/orange tipped and causes my pots to go black. When the flame is on minimum, however, it is a small blue flame which is as it should be apparently. Someone told me the jets are the incorrect size.

If the correct LPG jets are fitted then the flame with butane/propane on a hob should burn clear blue at all settings without soot or smell evident, although with oven and grill cooker burners you always get slight yellow tips particularly when using butane cylinders,as long as they aren't sooting or smelling this is OK. With propane you get blue flames on all hob/grill/oven burners and no orangey/yellow tips or sooting at all. You probably connected it up to your LPG cylinder using the natural gas jets fitted to your hob without any modifications done for LPG hence the yellow flames and soot emissions. Properly set up butane/propane LPG jets on hobs shouldn't soot up or produce lazy yellow/orange flames at all. If despite setting up for LPG operation you're still getting yellow orange tips and soot formation then it could be insufficient pressure or incorrect aeration settings on the burners;get a Calor Gas dealer or Gas Safe engineer in to sort this out-don't attempt to sort it yourself.

you sound like you have the natural gas jet instead of the lpg one...the lpg jets always come seperate with the hob and it is up to the indataller to change them and regulate aeration...if you remove the je with a 7mm socket, its size is stamped on it and you can check in the user manual if it isthe correct one
