I've got a Potterton Prima boiler (not combi).can anyone tell me how to fix?

what happens is that everytime we put the hot water on , the central heating comes on as well . is there a selector or anything that stops, both the heating(radiators) and hot water coming on together. I need to be able to still have hot water but noheating in the summer.

That wont fix it if it is a 3port valve

sounds like the zone valve situated near your cylinder and usually rather than changing it try a new motor in it you wouldnt have to pay someone and you downt have to drain down around £15.00
