How can I repair a brick gate post?

I have a 1.2 metre high brick gatepost that is wobbling from a crack which spans across the base abot 5cm from the floor. Is it possible to fix this or likely to need rebuilding? My dad is suggesting putting a layer of strong cement and sandwiching this in????help!

Hi Alexandra, Its very likely that all of the cement holding the bricks together is corroded round the base so the safest bet would be to take it down and rebuild it cause if it falls on somebody you will be liable, best of luck.
