chain does not get oiled, oil ends up in combustion chamber during storage?

I have a homelite XL 12 in. (old) the chain does not get proper oil and I'am sure the chain oil is ending up in the combustion chamber as 2 times after sitting a long time the engine would not turn over and upon removing the spark plug, bar oil ran out. what do I replace and how do i fix this condition?

Jim--

Most likely the oil pump in your old Homelite is one of the crankcase pulse-operated pumps with a diaphram in it, and in your situation, a diaphram with a hole or tear in it. Best try calling local repair shops and mom & pop hardware stores (if there's any left in your area) and see about ordering a new diaphram for the oil pump.
