what causes a spring on my megane break?

i had my car susspension on my car lowered it was fine to look at but soon as i jacked it up for the mot they notice that they was broken in numerious places

Nothing new here...due to the state of our roads and the fact that springs are thinner than they used to be means that I am fitting several pairs per year to various cars - of all makes.
