How can i fix my singer sewing machine?

when ever i sew, the stich comes out perfectly on one side and on the other produces about 10 treads, i have tryed getting my nan to fix it and iv been suggested to lossen the tention but it still remains the same

Start from the beginning, make sure the presser foot is up when you thread the machine, make sure the needle is in the correct way round, the top tension should be about 4 or 5, you should only just be able to pull the bottom thread through with slight resistence, if it is too tight slacken the large screw on the bobbin case about a quarter of a turn anti clockwise at a time and test, any problems you can email me and m,ake sure you give me your model number and remind me of your problem, this site no longer allows email addresses to be shown so type in my address below as you say it not as you read it.
