How can I tighten a loose kitchen mixer tap?

My kitchen mixer tap is loose and the whole unit spins and moves. I have tried to tighten a nut underneath which is connected to a half moon shaped piece of metal. I think this is supposed to hold the two connecting pipes to stop them moving which I think is the problem but it doesn't hold them. The pipes are flexible ones not solid. Thank you for any help.

Quite often what happens is the rubber washers fall out and you can tighten all you like they will still turn. Make sure there is a washer under the taps and one between the metal half moon and the sink.

Hi John, thank you. C

You have the correct idea - this nut that holds the half moon shaped plate in place also clamps the tap to the sink unit. There is a special tubular spanner available to help you tighten things properly.
