How can i get my motherboard booting up again?

Hi I was having some problems with my desktop so i went in and thought the battery for the main board was dead so I remove it and have it check it was ok so I put it back and try to boot up and all I got was a beeping sound when I switch the power on.its an AMD motherboard and 478 socket processor

the beeps are the mainboard giving diagnosis, and the number of beeps, long and short should be listened to and recorded, ie. 2 short beeps & 2 long beeps. given this information, either yourself or someone here can tell you what the problem is.
here you can see for yourself...

Well, socket 478 is a Pentium socket, not AMD, the AMD socket is 462.
Well make sure all the wires are properly connected and the memory pushed in all the way

Beeping early in the boot sequence is a real problem. Assuming that you have told the whole story, the only thing that you touched was the battery. Check that you have reinstalled it correctly.

The moral is: use proper dagnostic techniques don't poke and hope.
