Asus A7n8x (original v1.00) Motherboard troubles?

Hi Guys,

Had this motherboard working for about 1 and a half years without any pronlems and then last week it failed on me.

The computer switches on detecks my CPU as being Athlon 1300 (Its actually and Athlon 2200) and then switches itself off.

I've reset the CMOS, and tried clearing any bios settings, it wont allow me to upgrade the bios as the computer doesn't stay on for that long. Before you ask I hadn't added any new hardware before the failure, its the same rig I'v had for over a year.

Thought I'd ask before I shell out for another computer (If I cant fix this then Im going for a SFF PC-but I want to buy that in the future if I can)

Cheers

If it's under warranty take it back.

I have an A7n8x - vm/400 board it works well with one crappy PSU ---- but on a very good quality PSU connecting the *power* to the harddrive (any brand) causes the AMD CPU to "overheat" and shutdown. no harddirve, system ok. connect harddrive 1min max, bios reporting temperatures all over the place.

Note the AMD chip did not appear to heat up.
HDrive data did not need connecting to do fault.

In 10yrs computer support one of weirdest problems I've seen.

have you checked the cmos battery? is the clock running slow?

To help pinpoint the problem, disconnect all the drives and any expansion cards (except the video card, obviously). Once the machine is stripped to the bare minimum, see if it will run. If not, try removing and reinserting all the connections (including reseating the RAM). If it still won't run, the problem must be CPU, RAM or motherboard.
