Flymo Maxi Trim grass strimmer won't stop with switch?

My Flymo Maxi Trim grass strimmer won't stop when I switch it off, I have now to hold it firmly on the ground to stop it, and it now will also start when it is on the off position, should the kill switch spring be connected to a wire (mine seems to just slot into a hole.
Can someone help me

The switch should be connected to a wire because the switch stops electrons coming back from the magneto (sort of a magnet on top of the engine to generate electric) when you hit the switch it works as an isolator to stop the flow to the spark plug and hense the engine should stop so in answer to your question yes it should be connected
