I HAVE A PANASONIC VCR NV-F65HQ, IT WON'T POWER UP, THE POWER SUPPLY FUSE IS OK, 240V SUPPLY INPUT GOOD, THERE IS 112V AT THE FUSE. IT WENT THE SAME 18 MONTHS AND I TOOK IT TO A SHOP WHO CHARGED £45.OO TO FIT A 15 PENCE START CAPACITOR (MINIMUM CHARGE), DOES ANYONE KNOW WHICH CAPACITOR THIS IS? I WILL BE ABLE TO DO THE REPAIR MYSELF THEN, CHERRS. PETE B.

SORRY I MADE A MISTAKE ON THE MODEL, IT IS NV-F65B, THE HQ IS PART OF THE MODEL NO ON THE FRONT PANEL, THANKS AGAIN FOR YOUR HELP, BY THE WAY IT WORKED FINE TODAY UNTIL I UNPLUGGED IT FROM THE MAINS, THEN NO POWER NEXT TIME I PLUGGED IT BACK IN. Don,t recognise the model but if it is just a start up capacitor it will normally be in the primary circuit (nearest where the mains go in and between this and a transformer) and may find a small electrolytic type capacitor (these are the ones that usually fail). Personally I found that values less than 470uf fail the most.
Try applying a bit of heat using a hair dryer to this area switch off at the mains and on again as the heat may increase it's value enough to allow it to start up although when cool it may drop in value again resulting in no start and really should be replaced.
