I have a washer that leaks intermittently?

I have a Whirlpool Thin Twin, about 13 years old. It's the "extra capacity" size, I don't know the model number. The washer has water dripping into the tub, but only about half the time. Any idea on what is causing this to happen and how to fix it?

Dear RS:

It is exactly that; leaking when it is switched off. Thank you for your help! I'll look into finding the valve and taking care of it.

Is the washer leaking or is it filling when switched off?
if it isn't leaking to the outside and you are getting water into the drum when it is switched off one of the water valves is sticking slightly open and needs changing before it fails altogether and floods
