My boiler cuts out after 5 minutes!?

While fixing my floorboars, I screwed through a water pipe. I thought it was a central heating pipe as the water was dirty. so I flushed out the central heating system forgetting to turn the power off at the boiler. (the boiler wasnt warming the water!) I then discovered that the burst pipe was a hot water pipe so I drained the hot water tank. I carried out the repairs and turned the water back on. Since then the boiler comes on for 5 minutes then turns off. I have drained the central heating system thinking that there is air in the system but it is still not working.

Thankyou for any help you can give.

The boiler is a conventional space saver boiler....about 30years old.

Thanks for your help. There is a screw on the pump so I unscrewd it a little and it let out a bit of air and some water. The pump then started making some strange noises and then stoped working. I am starting to think that the pump is knackered.

Check if pump running and pumping circulation
If no circulation water from boiler than it overheat and will cut out
