Rechargeable batteries run at a lower voltage (1.2v) than normal non-rechargeable batteries (1.5v) so the camera is reading the voltage and saying that the batteries are low.

Also bear in mind the value of the MAh number. If the rechargeable batteries you are using for example are 800mah, then they wont last as long as batteries that say are 1500 or 2100mah.

Mah is the amount of current that can be drawn over a specific time from the battery. The greater the mah number, the longer the battery will last, oh and the longer the battery will take to charge.

My guess is, its not your camera, its your batteries.
