My Dyson DC14 Animal makes a funny noise when it's turned on?

When I turn my Dyson on it doesn't always start the first time.
When it does go it makes a slight noise as if there's no power coming from the motor.
There are some sparks coming from the motor.

i've got same problem.could be motor brushes need changing.when i can get a long reach t15 torx driver i,ll check them.
