Our taps are 8 years old are very stiff and do not turn off easily and have to really tighten them, The plumber tried to unscrew and couldnot, he says we need new taps but they match other items in the bathroom is there anyway We can get them repaired cannot find the name of the taps,

There is a good chance that a new tap insert will cure this problem - but it will have to be unscrewed from the tap body first so one way or another they have to come apart. B&Q do a range of tap inserts and you could just be lucky!
