Then you probably have a blockage in the airway.

When this sort of thing happens to me I take off hose and seperate all pipes and foot and peer through each part to see if there is daylight. If not use something to poke along the tube to push the blockage out. You can also look at the front end of the machine where the hose attaches and the dust goed into the machine and poke about, but good idea to unplug it!
