How can I fix the flush on a Vitra cisten?

The Vitra toilet has two buttons on the top which no longer flush the toilet.

I've taken the lid off and can flush by lifting the green button in the middle column, however the two buttons at the top of the column no longer lift this. How can I fix this problem?
