1...there have been a few cases, i have come across that for some unknown reason the computer looses the basic driver for the dvd player, very rare though.simple in this case, reload facory settings and all will be fine,
2... the more common fault is that the dvd player is faulty, laser or the internals are broken also simple in this case, relacement dvd player - turn machine upside down on the under side there is a small screw maybe with an arrow that faces the dvd player (this is the release screw for the player) if not there, the release screw is under the main case cover - good luck
