I tried checking all of the keys and none of them seem to be stuck. when I hit escape out of the thinkpad's error testing, the 00301, I get a screen that comes up and it has 78 301 = not ok ---> IBM. It has a circle and a slash through the ok and it looks like a book with IBM. I am not sure what this is or if it is something else. I have already tried plugging an external keyboard in to see if I could bypass the keyboard error. Any ideas on how to fix this problem? I do not have an operating system installed yet. It is a thinkpad 760xl.

It's extremely helpful if your original question contains informatrion like "it's and IBM 760".

There is a full diagnostic procedure contained in the ThinkPad 760 Hardware Maintenance Manual which you can download from: www.lenovo.com. (Lenovo have bought all of IBM's PC business.)

Just download the manual and follow the sequence. It will get you closer to the solving the problem.
