Fault Codes needed for Hotpoint Aquarius FDW60?

THe ECO45 and FAST40 lights are flashing, water from the last wash has not drained, and the machine does not respond to any commands. Before I spend £90 in calling out a Hotpoint engineer, I'd like to know what the fault is in case I could fix it for free.
Thanks
S Tyler, February 2006
Thank you so much, thought dishwasher was a gonna! Tilted it 45 degrees to the left , nearly sobbed when yet more water poured on the floor. Also tightened up lower spray arm and it's working.....yeaaahhhh thank you .

Cynthia, March 2017
Eco 45 flashing light problem. Tilting 45 degrees worked a treat. Machine working again and my family think I'm a marvel. Thanks to all and Happy New Year

I had two fault lights Eco and prewash. Followed these guides. Ended up following a YouTube video showing me how to remove the pump and check for debris. Turned out there was a tiny piece of chipped plate blocking it. Put it back together and now working fine.

Mark, October 2015
Thank you all who have posted regarding ECO 45 flashing & tilting to left by 45 degrees - It does let out a lot of water but it works, thanks for saving me a hefty call out charge

boogaloo, September 2015
Fair play to you guys ,had the same flashing light fault .The plastic screw located on the bottom tray was loose. All you need to do is as already described :
1)pull the power lead out of the socket
2)unscrew the bottom plastic screw which is located inside of the dishwasher on the bottom tray
3)prepare a mop or some cloth
4)Tipp dishwasher over on the side to drain the water
5)place the screw with spray arm back and try to turn the dishwasher on

Good luck my problem is sorted ,thanks a million guys

Craig 2010 absolute star!!

Had eco light flashing and dishwasher wouldn't fill...tried looking at all the user manuals which don't cover this fault and then found this thread. Had a few blockages in the spray arms (whether coincidence or not, not sure) but tilted machine 45deg to the left and hey presto it's now working. Took all of 30 seconds to fix.

Thanks again, almost thought I was having to buying a new machine.

Shane Knight49, March 2015
Read teasers note tried the small pump no debris reconnected and started programme but again to no avail,
Last effort before hefty repair bill leant machine as you look at face to left 45% hey presto !
Is there some sort of level switch that may of jammed?

STUART, December 2014
Hi

I had a similar problem with the Eco and Prewash lights flashing. After this happened within the first minute or so of a new cycle the dishwasher wasn’t draining properly (sounded like the waste pipe hose was just sucking air). I then had the dishwasher on its side to check the drain pump and motor. This all looked fine so I reattached them both, put it through a new cycle but again the same thing keeps happening.

Can anyone suggest if I need to fit a new drain pump or circulation pump? Or even both?

Many thanks for any help given.

Gary, July 2014
I've had a couple of issues with LED's flashing and I saw the advice about tipping the machine on its side. It worked but is a bit messy! What I now do is remove the bottom arm, tightly roll a couple of sheets of kitchen towel into a long length and then stick this down the hole you can see when the arm is off. The capillary action sucks up enough water to mean you don't have to tip the machine and get water all over your kitchen floor - simple but effective :-)

Rob, July 2014
Thanks craig may 2010

30 mins alltogether

Rusty, July 2014
based "Craig May 2010"; put the dishwasher lie down to one side, remove the bottom cover, find the small pump (can easily find out which is linked from the pipe discharging the used dirty water).

remove the three screws (small alan key), don't need to remove anything else, can find something there stopped the pump spinning.

Wu, March 2014
Hey guys

can someone show me what the detector look like? or atleast the anti flood device.... please show me a pic or google image

thanks

My Eco light was flashing and no water getting into the machine tilted to 45 degrees -- boom working again, fab advice, thought it was gonna be costly!!!

Daniel, October 2013
Thank you to Craig may 2010. Economy wash stopped after it's prewash stage twice. Scooped water out and put dishawasher on it's side. Just found a piece of glass in the drain pump and currently have fingers crossed that machine completes its cycle. Sounds healthier anyway!

FDW60 had rinse and eco lights flashing,
I cleaned filter, tightened lower spray bar, and tilted over, and now its working,

worked a treat with the tipping 45 degrees and tightening the bottom arm. ty guys

gazzer, February 2013
My washer stopped working, the ECo light was flashing and I was clueless. I contacted Hotpoint repair and booked a repair man for the next day, two choices £120 or £14.99 a month for a year. I then read the post by Tesser and within minutes my dish washer now works! The bottom spray arm connection was loose, I tightened it, tilted the washer slightly so excess water ran out of the bottom tray and hey presto. Quids in!!!!!!!!

Gazza.., February 2013
My eco light was flashing so after checking this site out took the back off after tipping to 45degrees to clear the water in the drain tray, checked out the pump and pipework which was clean, tried it again and it started to go through the washing sequence. It got so far and stopped again with the eco light flashing. So checked further back in the forum and found a post from scotquine saying about the bottom spray bar connection being loose. Checked mine and found it loose. That was how the water was getting into the drain tray. Tightened it up and now OK. I wish I had read all the posts to start with as the actual fix took about 30 seconds, after spending an hour or so getting all the covers off when I did'nt need to. Thanks for the forum and scotquine in particular.

Tesser, December 2012
Craig - May 2010, you are a legend. Easy to take the bottom off the dishwasher as you described, and once I detached the smaller pump, I found a piece of a match stick lodged in there which was preventing it spinning.

The dishwasher now works like a treat again. Many thanks for the great advice.

Steve, November 2012
Thanks to Craig in May 2010 - spot on answer. was a piece of glass in ours.

The ECO 45 light was flashing and the water was not entering the machine . I tipped it to the suggested 45 degree angle and bingo .... it works again - Cheers

Jake Fulton, May 2012
when the eco green light is flashing. (FDW65)

tilt the dishwasher to 45 degrees to empty the eccess water in the sump. this deactivates the float overload sensor. It is likely there is a build up of black slime in the outlet channels below the filters at the bottom of the dishwasher (inside the dish area). Use a vax machine (or power flush device) on "water suck" and suck out all the gunge from the outlet channels. use a bit of flexible plastic to loosen any gunge also. add clean water into the sump and resuck out with the vax. This works well. If it doesnt you probably have a fault outlet pump. hope this helps, Paul :)

Great Advice Craig May 2010.

I have a problem with FDW60. It was doing the double light flash & making funny noises.

first thing I did was to turn of the incoming water hose and run a rinse - this pumped all the remaining water out of the bottom of the DW - therefore I can conclude that the exit pump is working fine.

The problems occurred after that - when I ran a cycle, it started boiling the water and I could hear it bubbling up the pipe just inside the black plastic cover at the back.

It was clear that there was something wrong with the main pump.

I managed to open that up by removing a detector switch on the side and having a poke around - it was spinning freely.

It was then I noticed that the top of a white cylinder near the pump was a bit odd. This cylinder has the power wires attached to it (red & blue).

I removed this cylinder (bolt on the bottom attaching it to the pump housing) and the contents had melted through the side.

So the main pump is not working - explains the symptoms.

Now need to find a replacement part for the "melt-down" and see if that fixes it.

Matt, February 2012
Craig - my old man's dishwasher now fixed, many thanks! He'd thought there was only one pump and was about to pay to get a new one fitted. Turns out that it was the second, smaller pump which had the obstruction (a very rusty screw in this case)

my hotpoint fdw60 dishwasher, has two flashing lights fast 40 and delicates, it heats up and drains but give a bad wash, any ideas, thanks

G manning, January 2012
Saw this site and thought I had cracked the fault as the indications were the same. However the pump was clear and when I reassembled the pumps and started it up again it showed the same symptoms. Where do I go from here? Has anyone else found these symptoms and what was their next step? I am now suggesting the circuit board is to blame but have now downed tools for the day.

Big_Phil, December 2011
Craig, I had the same flashing lights and not pumping water out and thanks to your advice we took the small pump out and found a pin from one of my knives in there. Put it back together and all working fine.
Many Thanks

Craig,

Your a star - easy peasy fix and you saved me £100.

Hi.
I left my SDW60 running overnight, came down this morning to discover two lights flashing, 4 & 6 (Fast & Delicate).
I checked the filters and they are all fine.
I noticed that other posts here mention tripping out the house electrical fuses. I was sitting at my computer yesterday when we had a blip in the mains power supply, the power went off and came back on in about one second, and I'm wondering if it happened again last night while the machine was washing and that's what caused my problem. I would say though that the machine had completed the wash cycle and everything was clean.
I turned my machine off for a couple of minutes using the On / Off button on the front, and when I turned it back on it had mended itself.

Nigel., May 2011
hiya
please help me....my dishwasher has decided to just pack up on me. The selecting of programme works fine and push start and it whirs away but thats about it...no water is reaching and going in to continue the wash...it will just flash constantly until u switch it off.
Any advice?

ref.. Dave may2010. Flashing fault lights..

i guess iv just found the same bit of plate blocking the pump that every1 else has found.. Cheers for good advice to an easy fix..

Andy.., March 2011
Had the same error - lights flashing (dishwasher full of water). Followed the advice of Craig May 2010 and found a chip from a broken bowl in the smaller pump. Ran the pre-wash cycle and everything works ok. No flashing lights and an empty dishwasher. Joy :)

PS. It took me about an hour to fix the problem and refit the hoses. And if I can do it...so can you!

Cheers Craig May 2010.

Hotpoint Aquarius FDW65. Eco 45c & Fast 40c flashing together and not shown in the handbook

Exactly like Craig May 2010 took the small pump off as he described and found a cocktail stick jamming it - no more buffets!! - working dishwasher again. Thanks Craig.

Wayne, January 2011
I have an aquarius fdw60. i have the eco light flashing can anyone tell me what it is please

matt, January 2011
For the answer to all the flashing light error codes on this and many more appliances I have writen them down on my web site at http://www.selfix-uk.co.uk just click on the error code heading and follow the instructions on that page. Have Fun!

Dave Selfix-uk, January 2011
I had fast & delicates lights flashing after it took out the RCD.
The machine ran after, emptied, filled and then the main pump started. After a short while the lights flashed and the dish washer emptied.
I took the bottom off and found the heater was badly burned and obviously faulty, so the flashing don't seem to distinguish between faults very well .
Perhaps it's the time the lights come on that indicate the fault, mine was after the main pump operated at the time the heater should come on, others where it is a water fault have come on after the pump runs.

Pete Smith, January 2011
I am soooooo grateful to everyone who has answered on this page!! I had the flashing lights on prewash and eco wash and my hubbyp looked at it and said it was totally knackered!!!! I tried cleaning out the filters and then poured two hot kettles on the filters, switched off at the wall and HEY PRESTO!! a fixed dishwasher!!! just in time for christmas ~ didn't fancy forking out on a new one just a couple of weeks before the 25th!!! many thanks again and happy christmas to all

Scotquine, December 2010
I had the problem with the machine tripping out due the float in the base - it turned out to be a small leak that was comming through around the spinning jet in the base of the machine inside - i tighten this up from inside (about 1.5 turns) and "job done"

Duncan, November 2010
Hotpoint Aquarius FDW60.
Eco 45 light only flashing.
The filter in the washing compartment was blocked with large bits of food. This had caused water to flow into a shallow driptray at the base of the machine. There is a polystyrene float in this tray which rises and trips a micro switch, I presume to stop the kitchen floor flooding. The tray must hold a litre plus, so the best option is to carefully move the machine outside or have a mop and bucket handy, water sloshes out very easily.
Tipping the machine on its side clears the water. This cured the fault, but as stated earlier on this post, a blocked or faulty pump could also be a problem. I ruled the pump out first by tipping a bowl of water into the machine and turned it on to a cycle. The pump emptied the water first before the machine faulted so proving the pump. All is accessible if the machine is on its side or upside down. The tray is held on by six screw, three front and three rear. The two screws directly underneath hold the float switch in place.

Steve P, November 2010
Craig (May 2010) spot on answer many thanks. In my case it was a small piece of glass jamming the pump impeller. Very easy to fix.

Tim, September 2010
I fixed my machine now, very easy and simple. I took the small pump out and cleaned, very dirty you have to clean the dishes before putting them in the dishwacher to prevent this occurring. other thing that i notice was that the ring for the salt deposit was lose so the water was going down and the tray was full which actived the error switch and stop the dishwasher working. Good luck guys

Luis, August 2010
my dishwasher keeps stopping half way through it cycle and delicate light keeps flashing any ideas?

cheers andy

I have eco and prewash lights flashing. Any ideas
Thanks Jen

Craig (May 2010) thanks a million for your help, you were spot on, the culprit was a small bone, all fixed and me very happy

Storm21, June 2010
When I switch my FDW60 on it only lets me select Intense wash, beeps then the Drying light comes on.

Ian, June 2010
i think fast and delicate lights flashing is an overfill problem.

paddy, June 2010
Had same problem. Tried resetting, unplugging, drain clean out with straws, but no luck. It wasn't until I took the machine outside, led it on it's side, removed the bottom cover plate that I found the problem.

There are two pumps, one which is used to supply water to the components of the machine when washing (the large pump) and a smaller drain pump used to discharge the used dirty water. It was this small pump that was the problem. Its easy to remove just disconnect the small wiring plug from back of pump, disconnect the drain pipe using a pair of pliers to squeeze the hose clamp, remove the single fixing screw then twist to remove.

The pump can then be taken apart by removing the three torx screws and pulling apart. I found a small piece of plastic jamming the impeller on mine, removed it put machine back together and hey presto a working dishwasher. Easy !!!

Craig, May 2010
have a question can switch it on, water goes in ,then it flashes the two lights and then it stops what do i do to fix it

Fantastic, cleared error lights 3 and 5 by sitting it on its back, draining excess water downhill, flushing through with boiling water and repeating the above again, now works fine.

Iv got no water coming in my dishwasher & Eco light flashing. The filters are clean so don't know what wrong with it.

Mandy leelee, March 2010
lights are flashing and wont work

gillian, March 2010
I have the Fast and Delicate lights flashing. Cleaned the filters and drained excess water as well as unplugging the mains and still is stoping straight away.
Its not tripping electrics

Nikki, February 2010
had fast and delicate flashing on my fd, filters where clean, outlet was clear,so turned off at mains waited a couple of mins and hey presto worked a treat.

wally, January 2010
I had the eco wash and fast wash lights flashing. I tried the straw, abd also those wooden bbq kebab skewers that look like big cocktail sticks. I could see lots of horrible stuff floating around as I cleared the blockage. I also boiled the kettle, tilted the dishwasher back and poured the boiling water down where the filters are at the bottom of the dishwasher. That seemed to do the trick, lets hope winning the election is as easy.

Gordon Brown, January 2010
Had the same problem with my DW, fixed it by poking around with a straw, tilting it forwards, switching it off at the mains, disconnecting the inlet pipe then re connecting it. Not sure which part solved the problem but have just saved myself £300 to replace the DW. Off to the pub now with the money saved. Cheers

Ian F, December 2009
I have an identical problem to the delicates and fast lights flashing. Tripped electrics too - DW now 3 years old and first major problem with it.

Rob, November 2009
just had this occur to me!
Brilliant, clean out the water poke a straw down to make sure its clear. CLEAN the filters and reapply power. worked perfectly!

Switched off, cleaned filters (also used straw)tilted forward for 2 mins and worked. Thanks

CeeCee, October 2009
hi had the same codes flashing fast and delicates cleaned out the inside filter at the bottom of the machine also with a straw and then tilted the dishwasher forward left for about 2 mins and then turned on and it is working. many thanks

marie, September 2009
I have the same problem and the Fast and Delicate lights flashing means a drainage problem and could be a kinked drainage hose (if you have moved the appliance recently then this could be a reason for it to be kinked) or it could be the filters. This is according to Hotpoint's internal faults web site that we mortals can't see. It could also be the fact that the machine needs resetting and this means just turning the power off at the wall switch for a few minutes and then turning it back on. If this doesn't work then you need an engineer.

Mark, August 2009
I've got different lights flashing. fast & delicate lights flash after a couple of minutes of the machine running. also think the machine tripped the house electrics the other night. anybody got any ideas.

My dishwasher keeps tripping the house electrics and blowing the fuse in the plug every time I switch it on. It has worked fine for over a year now and I have tried other equipment in the same plug socket and they are fine has anyone got any ideas before I call an engineer out.

Steve, February 2009
I have this problem too - Any help yet?

Sam, December 2008
Definetly a blockage, used straws to 'drain rod' the hole in the bottom of the dishwasher and it worked a treat!

Dave, September 2008
i have lights fast and delicate which indicate a heating fault, can anyone tell me if it would be the PCB as sometimes it will do full cycle and other times will cut out straight away.

yami, July 2008
often water still in bottom of machine.tilt machine sideways to tip water out, allow time to dry and cross your fingers ![there is some sort of cut out switch in machine if water is in it].chris

chris, April 2008
same prob i turned it off at the mains and it seems to be sorted

shane, February 2008
ODD!?
The manual states that a blockage is signified by indicators 4 & 5 flashing (Fast 40 & Prewash). Yet I too took out the filters and "pumped" out the excess water (Whilst having it switched off at the mains) and it now works fine too. Maybe it's a typo in the manual and it should be eco 45 and fast 40 lights?
Also, I previously switched the machine off with its own button, maybe it's important to stop power to the washer completely as it renembers the error code unless you disconect power totally.
Below is a link to the manual if it helps.
http://imagebank.indesitcompany.co.uk/brochures_online/pdf/Hotpoint/Dishwashers/FDW60_65_after_Oct04_19505371801.pdf

Dualwolf, July 2007
Not sure if this helps but I believe you have a blocked filter.
I had exactly the same, removed the filter -pulled up the circular beige plastic thing with the triangular metal mesh and under there is a couple of filters- cleaned them all out and all seems ok.

To reset, turn machine off at mains for at least a minute or two and the fault codes should reset.

AndyB, August 2006
