How can I fix the central locking in my 1999 Ford Focus?

I have a 1999 1.8 litre TD DI ford focus. I bought it a few days ago and have found that the central locking doesnt work. It has a remote, but this has no effect on any of the doors, and the doors can only be unlocked or locked manually with the key or with internal locking switches (which also only unlock 1 door at a time). I'm severely lacking in mechanical skills so it would help if someone could give me an idea of how much this could cost to get repaired as well as advice on doing it myself. What is the maximum anyone thinks i would have to spend? thanks very much for your help

I had the same problem with my focus ( T reg) my car went in for a new clutch and wen i picked it up the central lockin was workin. I asked the mechanic what he did to fix it and he said that it was a matter of just holdin down a button on the key fob to reset the system! Not sure what button or for how long but give em all a go, i'm sure u could work it out with trial and error!

yeah definitely the first step getting the fuse box down behind the glove box.If it has blown then replace it and try the locking. If it blows straight away, keep replacing it and disconnecting one door loom at a time(dead easy, just twist the big black connector going into each door).
If you narrow it down to one door in particular, then it will probably be that the door latch motor has a ground to earth and is blowing the fuse.
Give it a try...Gary

check the fuse on the back of your interior fuse box, behind glove box.you will need a 7,8 or 10mm spanner/socket+ratchet,cant mind which.the fuse islocated under a mass of wires, just pull these apart and you should see it,i think it is yellow in colour.anyone with a litle mechanical skill should be able to do this in around 5 mins.
