water not running properly?

when I turn hot water on it comes out at a trickle, then seconds later comes normally - what could be wrong

A new boiler? Not at all...however you need to call out a competent heating engineer who will replace this water flow valve as I say or maybe a diaphragm in a diverter valve. Either way, budget about £80. Post back!

Would this prove expensive to repair, does it mean a new boiler?

OK do you have a combi boiler then? In this case, the valve that opens to let water into the system when there is a demand could be sticking.

thank you - but it happens on all my taps.

Its the rubber washer on your tap that is sticking down for a little while...I'll bet its a bit swollen with age.
